Environment

For IVAR protecting the environment represents a key aspect of its corporate philosophy and relative policies. The choice of ecological materials, environmentally-friendly production processes and ecological principles lie at the heart of the company's strong commitment to the environment.

IVAR's focus on environmental issues is achieved with a series of specific actions:

Photovoltaic system
A 547 kWp photovoltaic system installed on the roof meets more than 25% of the company's annual energy needs and reduces CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by about 200 t/year.

Geothermal system
In the production area is a heating/cooling and air-conditioning system with a 350KW water-to-water geothermal heat pump that reduces CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by an additional 150 t/year.

Electricity 100% from renewable resources
In 2014, IVAR decided to use only energy generated with renewable resources. Generating energy in this way does not release greenhouse gases. Further, in 2016, we obtained the European EKOenergy certificate for our sustainable electricity. The label shows that it fulfils strict environmental criteria. Its sale also helps finance projects in renewable energy and sustainable development.

Zero carbon natural gas
IVAR has been using zero-carbon natural gas for heating and for manufacturing processes since 2014, where the carbon dioxide emitted when the gas is burned is offset - another way in which we protect the environment.

ECOSTAB energy economisers
At the start of 2019, we installed energy economisers. These allow us to lower our energy consumption, resulting in reduction of CO2 emissions of around five tonnes per year.

Hot heat recovery
The air-conditioning systems in the offices are all equipped with heat recovery devices. In the winter, hot air from the compressor room and the cooling units for emulsified water is recovered and used for heating the production premises.

Inverter compressors
The use of inverter compressors, which generate only as much energy as effectively required, requires 30% less electricity than traditional machines.

Adaptive lighting
There is a controlled lighting system in the buildings that adapts according to the amount of light effectively required using dedicated control software.
In the most recently built production facility, a lighting system was installed with high efficiency LED lamps that adapt the performance and consumption to the actual demand for brightness, resulting in energy savings of over 50% compared to traditional lamps.
The lighting system in warehouses for storing finished products is equipped with high-efficiency LED lamps that, in addition to adapting the performance and consumption to the actual demand for brightness, reduces the brightness itself until it is turned off completely if the passages for the forklifts are unused. This solution enables an energy saving of over 70% compared.

Packaging: recycled materials and water-based ink
We package in boxes and cartons with a composition that is 80% recycled materials. All printing is done only using water-based inks.

CONAI eco-design award
With the new system adopted by IVAR, for the same shipment, we are able to save 2.990 kg of cardboard, 4 cardboard semi-corners, 125 gr of stretch film. It also includes the reuse of an EPAL branded pallet and the insertion of an environmental claim to create cultural awareness and instruction of the stakeholders.

FSC paper
We print our technical and informative documentation on paper that comes from responsibly managed forests.

Offset the Climate Impact of Shipping
We have joined to the UPS carbon neutral Campaign, that offers a carbon neutral shipping option. UPS offers the ability, with a low price increase, to counter balance the carbon dioxide emissions generated by the transport of packages through carbon offsetting. This means that for every tonne of CO2 a package produces in transportation, an equivalent amount of CO2 is saved by a verified emission reduction project somewhere else in the world.

Eco-friendly vehicles
At IVAR, our fleet is predominantly made up of hybrid or methane-powered vehicles, as well as traditional high-efficiency diesels.
Furthermore, we have a designated fully electric vehicle for transporting stock between the facilities at our Prevalle manufacturing centre.

E-STATION
Two charging slots for electric vehicles installed at our headquarters car park, we are helping to support the development of E-Mobility, as evidence of our constant focus on energy conservation and environmental protection.
